distance. defined as the avoidance of familiarity; aloofness or reserve, is something we’ve all began to get accustomed to. amid the pandemic, places of solidarity and comfort transformed due to seen and unseen circumstances. worship spaces adapted, and those attached to these spaces adapted too. social distancing is a photo journey that covers this process of adaption within the church and it’s members.
as a woman who grew knee deep in southern churches, I wanted to explore my roots. for many in the Black community specifically, Black churches have made (and broken) many people. how do we analyze the ground between tradition and true relationship? how do you establish where you stand? are you able to commune with a room of one?
to the place I call home, an ode to family turned forever muses.
